Workshop Overview

This workshop demonstrates how iPad can be used by individuals to improve student learning both in the classroom and at home. Content focuses on iPad operations, device features, native apps, and third party apps from iTunes. Modules are available to discover the built-in accessibility features for addressing special needs in the areas of vision and hearing disabilities. Participants can also choose to explore educational resources on iTunes U and use iLife tools to create mobile curriculum content.

Learning Outcomes

• Understand iPad basic navigation, native applications, and classroom application.
• Understand how the iPad can be used as a personal tool for teaching and learning.
• Discover how to personalize learning with iPad, apps, and iTunes U.

Short Activities

Objective: Calculate the x-intercept, y-intercept, and slope
Apps: Quick Graph, QuickVoice
Instructions:
1. Download Quick Graph to the iPad from the App Store
2. Enter the equation y=8x+4 into Quick Graph
3. Save the graph
4. Use QuickVoice to create an audio recording of your answers to the following questions for the equation y=8x+4:
What is the x-intercept? What is the y-intercept? What is the slope?

Objective: Identify major characters from history or literature
Apps: Sonic Pics
Instructions
1. Download Sonic Pics to the iPad from the App Store
2. Select three important historical or literary figures
3. Find and download images of these people
(Save a picture from the iPad web browser by pressing and holding the image on the iPad screen, then select
Save Image. The picture will be stored in the Photos section of the iPad)
4. Use these images in Sonic Pics and record your explanation for selecting these people
